Mr. Soto has a lot of fashion films, but in my opinion this is his best so far. The sound is good, and while the idea flounders and drags just a touch, the visuals are STUNNING.
Wow. Color me in love! Looking around online today for holiday gifts I came upon this AMAZING set of skull items by DL & Co @ Unica Home. The series is called “memento mori,” which is a latin phrase that when translated, states “remember that you are mortal”.
The memento mori series by douglas little, founder of D.L. & Co., includes:
- skull place card holders (or use them as business card holders in your office or studio!) - skull swizzle sticks - little silver skull - skull little porcelain plates - wax skull candle
This Rabbit Lamp by Front for Moooi @ Unica Home is totally 100% needed asap. I can not get over exactly how much this lamp is loved and required. Let's just say it had really better be under the holiday tree along with a certain something from Alexis Bittar or this bunny is going to hop off and get it herself! ;)
On Tuesday TG shot Timoxa @ Supreme, and she is hands down one of the best models we have ever worked with. She required basically no direction after we described the shoot to her, had great ideas, flawless skin and a fabulous attitude. Here's a grid of outtakes from one of the scenes for your viewing enjoyment. Timoxa = book it!
Visit David Lynch's website for ringtones, coffee needs and, yes, daily weather reports for nowhere in particular by David himself. What a cracker jack! I love David Lynch. He is truly a unique individual with his own bizarre ideas.
Beautifully filmed, the light is gorgeous, love the idea. And it was shot right down the street from our old house, at the church wall on Mott & Prince.
Have a Happy Tofurkey Holiday, if you celebrate it. Or a Thanksgiving, or National Smallpox Distribution Day, or whatever you may choose to call it. Enjoy your day(s) off and be thankful. Harri and I will be in our jammers all day, watching movies with our 4 resident cats and our one foster, eating Tofurkey (the cats share), holiday shopping online, reading the paper and staying out of the studio for this one day of the year.
Even with this tanking economy, we should all be thankful that we get to make the work that we make. The past few days of shooting have been super amazing, and I for one am mega thankful for the ladies of TG, the great people we get to meet and work with and the opportunity to do our jobs in general.

The gorgeous and talented Amy Finlayson @ NEXT, pictured above in our first shoot for Stimuli Magazine (their 2nd issue), has a blog. Go check it out for the dish on her current stint in Paris, fashion shooting, and the adventures of Vernon the hand face. We miss you Amy!
For the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld designed a special 5 Euro coin. The coin features both a portrait of Coco Chanel and trademark graphics of the brand. The 5 Euro coin was chosen, as it is a good match with the Chanel No. 5 fragrance.
The coin comes in a gold version, limited to 99 pieces, with each piece going for 5900 Euros. The silver coin goes for 45 Euro and comes in a run of 11900. The coins will be released on December 1st.
Unkle Karl, up to his wacky antics as usual, making money has more than one meaning this time!
This is an amazing, gorgeous, poetic film by A Nice Idea Everyday. I am 100% in love with it. The crowd reactions, the shots, the lighting, the escalator... amazing. Beautifully shot, lovely idea. Love it.
Doing some research today into new fashion films and found the below...
Some gorgeous images, and love the sound in the first series, but it goes on for a bit too long in my opinion and doesn't really hold together. That said, a lovely effort from Adrian Oianu and Romania's first fashion film!
Directed by Jean Francois Carly, this one is just gorgeous. The visuals are STUNNING. Love the balloons, the fireworks -- he is really working with the moving picture. Some parts don't quite work -- dancing, etc -- but as a whole it's lovely, even if it doesn't go anywhere. Wish it was a bit longer!
Max Vadukul shoots it gorgeous for Yohji.
Gray Scott makes it gorgeous, but very NIN/The Ring.
One of TG's favorite models on the planet, Martina Correa @ Supreme, recently walked in the Vera Wang spring 2009 bridal show. Gorgeous, as always. Love her.
Extremely creepy BABY HAND soaps at A+R store. The store is fabulous, and these soaps are... um... actually a little too disturbing even for Team Offensive.
Liking this kind of stuff is the reason that Angella is correct when she says that instead of being called Team Genius, we really should be Team Weird or Team Offensive. It's true.
Sharon Montrose is making the bestest portraits of animals that I have seen in some time. And they are totally not expensive whatsoever. I wish they were really big though. I want this porcupine like 30x40 in my home gallery, right next to Masha and her bruised eyeball. What a pair they would make!
And yes, they are real animals, happy and alive, not taxidermy. Phew.
At first I could not decide if these new images by Yelena Yemchuk, via Calikartel, were offensive or not, and then I couldn't decide if I liked the flat lighting or not. In end end, I vote A-. I love the composition, and while I am not 100% on board with using geisha culture and actual geishas as background props, I do think the "non" lighting works in this sense to lend an overall feeling and mood, and I like where the story is trying to go. The overall editorial is not as creepy as Yelena generally gets, but it does have a slight eerie, timeless quality to it and the styling is AMAZING. Head on over to Calikartel to check out the entire story. Carmas Kaas reminds me here of models from Avedon's days of fashion shooting.
Last week we shot Laurel @ NY Models, a gorgeous new face and a super awesome lady. Today we discovered she's got her own blog, all about fashion junk and being a model and stuff. Go check it out!
Li Xiaofeng designs amazing clothing out of, of all things, porcelain. Gorgeous and something I would never have imagined as wearable before. Unbelievable!
Freaking amazing pre-bloodied chairs (so you don't have to waste your time bloody-ing them in your own precious spare time) by Amy Lau. Amazing, gorgeous, required NOW.
On Monday Cyndi, Lacy and I worked with Anna Katsanis styling and Laurel @ NY Models on a new spring story. Here is Laurel posing for a lovely moment with our cat Mr. Grumpy. I think it's time he gets his own agent, don't you?
A few days ago, during the mega rains here in NYC, Harri found this cute little frog friend in our building trash room. We don't know how he/she got there, but Harri brought her/him up to our house and we freshened her up in a water bath for a bit before taking her to the park on our street. The park has a lovely pond that is full of tiny frogs, she probably hopped down to our house from there in the first place. So cute! Studio frog friend. That makes a chicken, a pigeon and a frog rescued so far this season. I heart this neighborhood.
Last week we shot an editorial with 2 gorgeous identical twins from Lithuania, repped by NY Models:

We used a bunch of giant Matrioska dolls as props for the eastern euro feel we were going for. Fun and new! Annoying to cart around, but hey, that's cool. Today I discovered the ad below on NotCot - it seems like a trend has started. ;)
Alexander McQueen for Samsonite collection. LOVE IT. The above is called the "Hero Piece," and takes on the imprint of a human form with the ribcage and sternum outlined at the front of the case and the backbone on the back. Check out the entire collection. Luggage for old goths!
Seriously, since I found this last night I can not stop watching these puppies. All day it has been on the smaller screen in the studio while we were working. Watch the puppies sleep, bark, play, run in their sleep, sit on each other, hang out, etc. It never gets old. I am not kidding. You will get addicted. Hurray for puppies!
Check out the front row... Anna Wintour, the devil... Nigel Barker perhaps? He is always sitting there... With interesting fashion nods seemingly to Viktor & Rolf, Vivienne Westwood, Manish Arora etc. Quite a good show!
Hurray to Henri Bendel for going fur-free! They’ve been around for almost 114 years, so look out Saks, Macy’s, Nieman Marcus, & Nordstrom! Fur is dead!
