laurel laurel laurel
The other day there was really lovely sunlight coming into the house so I ran and grabbed my camera and made Laurel sit her butt down in the light while I snapped away. I just wanted to capture the light to remember it for a future shoot, but we ended up throwing a few pieces of mine and hers on her and in 10 minutes came up with a little shoot of our own. Fashion Does it Better has covered it here. Yay Laurel!

martina is killing it
Martina @ NY Models is one of my favorite models ever -- I've shot her many times, for our Futureclaw Lioness cover story and for our Marimekko campaign. She is super nice and moves like a dream. Plus, she has one of the most amazing faces around today. So I was so thrilled to see the story on her new UK Elle story in Fashion Does it Better. Please go visit to see the entire editorial, which is gorgeous.

My O My
My O My is a super amazing store here in Helsinki that sells designer clothing, jewelry, shoes, bags, candy, art, design items, and sheep chairs. It is the bestest. Today I visited and purchased a gorgeous Alexander McQueen fall coat after a long debate between it and 2 versions of the same Vivienne Westwood wool blend jacket. The staff was super nice and crazy helpful and kind and lovely. And the store's website makes fun noises when you mouse over things. Check it out yay!
Johnny Kangasniemi
I discovered new Finnish fashion photographer Johnny Kangasniemi the other day after seeing his work in an outdoor gallery in the Helsinki city center. I was so impressed that I dug through my stupidly giant purse to find a pen and a scrap of paper to jot down his name for later googling. I highly recommend a visit to his website and a perusal of his lovely fashion work.

Helsinki 10
If you for some reason happen to find yourself in Helsinki I highly recommend popping over to Helsinki 10, a concept store that has opened since I was here last. The place is fabulous and when I visited yesterday with my friend and Finnish makeup artist Saara we found ourselves oohing and aahing over practically ever piece in the store. Jeremy Scott, Ann Demeulemeester, Rick Owens, Comme des Garcons, Vivienne Westwood and lovely, lovely Tsumori Chisato -- just to name a few! I fell in love with an amazing giant cashmere sweater and will be going back to visit it and mull it over tomorrow before heading back to NYC. This store also introduced me to the amazing shoes of Finnish designer Minna Parikka -- must check out her flagship store here tomorrow as well.
Grace Jones + Eiko Ishioka
images by mrksaari
Last night I was lucky enough to see the amazing, incomparable Grace Jones in concert at my brother in law's annual music festival here in Helsinki, Flow. She changed costumes for every song -- each costumed designed by Eiko Ishioka, award winning costume designer. Google image Eiko if you have a moment, you'll be floored and inspired.
Grace has an amazing figure and those legs go on forever. Her voice is strong as ever and she even hula hooped for an entire song. The best part for me was that the show was like watching a fashion shoot set to music -- every move was gorgeous, every pose thoughtful and gorgeous. She even had 2 wind machines to move her clothing and headpieces around. Fucking brilliant!
If you have the opportunity to see Ms Jones, don't miss it.

Feel good, be happy! TGBR is on holiday for the next few weeks in scandinavia. Please excuse what I am sure will be very sporadic posting thanks to the lack of internet on islands. Be happy and take care. We'll see you soon.
