Today is all about models, it seems. Over on Shoot the Blog Rachel showed these two images by Peter Lindbergh. First, the iconic image we all know of those 90s supermodels, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford:
Then, Peter's recent update of "today's" supermodels, Sasha P, Natasha Poly, Catherine McNeil, Lily Donaldson, and Doutzen Kroes.
In our eyes, there is no comparison. The girls in the more recent image don't have the power, the strength, the energy, the life of the women from the 90s. They are models to be sure, but is there anything really super about them? The only one that seems to stand out is Catherine -- she alone doesn't look scared or wounded, she looks like a woman that could do some damage at a photoshoot -- in a GOOD way. Let's bring back the spirit of those models in the 90s -- strong, healthy, experienced women!
