The Washington Post has a great article about Richard Avedon in today's paper. Tomorrow through Friday, a Washington Post writer will examine a particular photo from the show "Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power " at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. If you're in DC, go have a look, won't you?
Richard Avedon, widely known as one of the bigger jerks in photography, was my first real photographic inspiration, and seeing his show at the Whitney back in the early 90s hit me hard. Seeing him in person scared the bejeesus out of me. I was obsessed with his images of models and fabric in motion and remember being awed at the scale and scope of his work. His work pushed me to make mine. I heart you, Mr. Avedon!
